What is an SMTP?
Your SMTP controls your outgoing mail. Your POP controls your incoming mail.
What is my SMTP?
Usually your SMTP contains your domain name and is formatted like this: smtp:YOURDOMAINNAME.com (i.e. smtp.lenashore.com) or this YOURDOMAIN.com (i.e. lenashore.com)
Sometimes your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will want you to use their smtp instead of your domain. For instance, say you get your internet from comcast.net, but you have a domain name of johnsmith.com. Comcast may not like you using smtp.johnsmith.com and would prefer smtp.comcast.net instead.
How can I find out what my SMTP is for my ISP?
To find your current ISP do one of the following:
- Call your internet service provider (Bellsouth, Comcast, etc) and ask them for the SMTP.
- Go to your internet service provider’s website and search for “SMTP”.
- Look at the account information on an existing working email account to see what SMTP is being used.
- Refer to the list below to help you find your service provider’s ISP.
Below is a list of some common ISP outgoing SMTP Servers. Some ISP’s do not allow their users to use a third party mail server to send outgoing mail. In that case you can use your ISP’s outgoing SMTP Server.
