Help! I lost the password to my TimeCapsule!
Question
I had TimeCapsule set up and then got a new machine and moved things around. Anyway, when I go to my Airport Utility it wants to know my TimeCapsule password and I have no clue what it is. How can I retrieve it?
Answer
This is an easy one!
You need to give TimeCapsule a soft reset. All you need is a ballpoint pen or similar tool shape. Go to the back of your TimeCapsule and press the reset button for 1 second with the pen. This will give you 5 minutes to access TimeCapsule without needing a password. Open your Airport Utility (Applications –> Utilities –> Airport Utility) to update the password to a new one.
NOTE: More information from Apple can be found here on the different types of resets: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201945
Will i lose my files if i do this?
You should read the different types of resets so you make sure you don’t do the kind that will wipe your TimeMachine: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201945
Mine is still demanding a password and won’t let me in. I did the button for soft reset, and the yellow light came on flashing, and on my screen, but when I try and open it in Airport utility it still demands the password.
Any more ideas?
Thanks
Two thoughts. 1. Maybe you held the button too long or not long enough? 2. Take it to a Apple Genius Bar. Sorry. I can’t think of anything else.
THANK YOU!! MY Husband’s computer died a few years ago that we used to set it up. Then my computer died and I got a new one and couldn’t connect to my airport with all my client’s files!
I’m so happy it helped!
Realizando esse reset perde os arquivos que estão salvo nele?
